For many families interested in adopting, fundraising is one of the first steps they will take to begin their adoption journey. There are many funding options available to assist prospective adoptive families with the fees associated with adoption. Here are just a few fundraising ideas that we have seen many of our families utilize:
1. Adoption Grants
There are many adoption grant organizations available to assist families with the financial aspect of adoption. We always suggest that families apply for as many grants as possible. Although you are not able to apply until your Home Study is complete and approved, we suggest you do your research and start completing the applications at the same time as completing the Home Study, so that once your home study is complete, you can send those applications out!
2. Selling Adoption T-Shirts
This is a wonderful way to raise funds for your adoption, while sharing positivity surrounding adoption! There are several companies that will assist you in designing and making the shirts. This is a fun way to allow family and friends to support your adoption and share your cause.
3. Spaghetti Dinner or Pancake Breakfast
This is a unique way to raise money for your adoption, while getting friends and family together for a fun night OR morning out. If you are a part of a church, request to utilize the church hall and/or kitchen for the event, which will cut costs as well.
4. Dinner at a Local Restaurant
Do you have a favorite restaurant down the street you go to often? Ask if they would be willing to offer a benefit night, where a percentage of their sales will be donated to your adoption. Even a local fast food restaurant, such as Chick Fil A, may be willing to do the same. Share on social media, have your family and friends join, and you will be surprised how many people will show up to support you!
5. Online Funding Account
This is a great way to share your adoption story and ask for others to be involved in bringing a child into your home, by donating online. There are many avenues to do this and this is becoming a popular way for families to fundraise!
