Each person you meet throughout the course of an adoption plan deposits a little memory or emotion that stays with you forever. It is a privilege to be involved in such an amazing process. The bravery, selflessness, and love reflected by each party is incredible to witness.
However, there is always that one person in your career who reveals qualities rarely seen and who leaves a permanent mark in your heart and mind. Bridget was that person.
Bridget has faced tragedy and suffering unlike many of us can imagine and experienced painful situations that were thrust upon her at no fault of her own. To see someone overcome all the obstacles she has faced is extraordinary. She is determined to better herself and did not let anything stand in her way.
I am so proud of the beautiful person she is today. She inspires me with her courage, tenacity, strength, and resolve to take on each new day, despite what is going on in her life. She hasn’t done it by herself mind you. She met a wonderful partner who had many of the same struggles. They understand each other’s weaknesses, strengths, are totally committed to each other and support one another without judgment.
I look forward to the day when the children Bridget lovingly placed for adoption decides to meet their birth mother. I hope I get the chance to share with them how much she loves them and about the incredible sacrifice she made to give them the life she wanted them to have.
When we say birth moms are strong, it’s not just another cliché. I have had the privilege to witness this over and over in many clients and especially in Bridget, my dearest birth mom.
